Security Assistant

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking qualified Nepali Nationals for the following position to be based in Kathmandu.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Primarily support the FSO (Field Security Officer) in all tactical, operational, and strategic security matters that impact IOM’s staff safety and security, IOM’s operations and programs in country.

2. Assist the FSO in networking and collaborating with other international organizations and agencies as well as governmental institutions working in the security management field.

3. Support the FSO in maintaining a close working relationship with United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) personnel related to the various security agreements and procedures. Support the FSO in the conduct of required security assessments / evaluations, threat analysis, and risk assessments and offer appropriate recommendations.

4. Support the FSO to develop and implement evacuation/emergency security plans. Prepare and execute security and safety related training sessions for IOM staff members.

5. Assist the FSO in planning, follow-up, execution, and control of security related construction / modernization / improvement programs.

6. Support the FSO in the preparation of security briefings for HOA (Head of Agency) Sub Office and IOM staff.

7. Takeover basic security responsibility under the supervision of HOA Sub Office during the FSO’s absence from the mission area.

8. Perform other such duties as assigned by HOA Sub Office or FSO related to mission security management.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:


1. Bachelor degree.

2. Two years experience working in security management, law enforcement or military disciplines in a pre-requisite, preferably with International experience.

3. Ability to work under difficult physical conditions and in a stressful environment is a necessity.

4. Dedication to assigned responsibilities, pro-active/creative thinking, flexibility and aptitude to work in team oriented structures.

5. Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills.

6. Very good command of both written and oral communications skills in English.

7. High level computer literacy in Windows XP, MS Office.

8. Ability to act autonomously from FSO (based in Damak) whilst making sound judgments based on thorough knowledge of the security situation in Kathmandu in particular and the country in general.
