Psychosocial counselor

Psychosocial counselors (Ten persons based at Jhapa)
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Psychosocial care and support
• Undertake vulnerability assessments for resettlement candidates referred by UNHCR and IOM.
• Screen and assess referred cases.
• Provide individual, family and group counseling as needed.
• Facilitate other group interventions e.g. classroom based intervention, community resiliency groups, other types of support groups (e.g. recovering alcoholics.)
• Refer individuals and families in need of a higher level of mental health care to AMDA.
Supervision
• Coordinate with, supervise, mentor and support CPSWs in their work which includes: community outreach; conducting community psychosocial orientations; identification, screening and assessment of vulnerable individuals/families; providing basic emotional support; making referrals for counseling or other psychosocial interventions, co-facilitating selected group interventions with Counselors.
• Provide supervision to the 6-month counselling trainees during their refugee camp placements.
Reporting and documentation
• Maintain case documentation of work with clients.
• Write weekly reports in English to be submitted to UNHCR
Coordination
• Participate in weekly project coordination meetings, and weekly peer supervision and support meetings
• Coordinate with other organizations and institutions in the refugee camps, including UNHCR, IOM, AMDA, Lutheran World Federation, CARITAS, camp management committees, Bhutanese Refugee Women’s Forum, Youth Friendly Centres and Child Forums.
Training
• Co-facilitate CPSW and other trainings
• Co-facilitate psychosocial orientations


REPORTS TO: Project Coordinator for direct supervision; Clinical Advisor for clinical supervision.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Required
• 6 months psychosocial counseling training
• 6 months counseling experience
• Knowledge of psychosocial and mental health care in Nepal
• Fluent Nepali and strong English language skills (spoken and written)
• Ability to write clearly in English
• Willingness to be based in Jhapa for a one year contract
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment

Preferred
• Experience being field-based
• Experience working with highly vulnerable clients
• At least 2 years of relevant work experience
• Knowledge of/experience in community based approach to psychosocial care
• BA in Social Science (preferably Psychology)
• Strong facilitation and training skills

Salary range: 13,000-20,000 depending up on the experiences
